What is a 45 Degree Short Radius Elbow?
A 45° Short Radius Elbow, often referred to as SR45, is a buttweld fitting used to change the direction of flow in piping systems. The “45” refers to the angle of the bend. In contrast, a Long Radius (LR) Elbow, such as an LR 90 or LR 45, has a bending radius that is 1.5 times the nominal pipe size.
For example, a 6-inch LR 90 Elbow has a bending radius of 1.5 times the pipe size, making it 9 inches. On the other hand, a 45° Short Radius Elbow has a bending radius equal to the nominal pipe size. For instance, a 6-inch SR 45 Elbow has a bending radius of 6 inches.
