The ASME B16.11 Threaded Union specification covers forged or rolled alloy and stainless steel pipe flanges, forged fittings, and valves designed for high-temperature applications. After the hot working process, these unions must be cooled to a specific temperature before undergoing heat treatment. This process includes austenitizing or solution heat treatment, cooling media, and quenching according to specified requirements.
The materials for these unions need to meet the required chemical composition for elements like carbon, molybdenum, columbium, titanium, manganese, phosphorus, silicon, nickel, and chromium. Mechanical properties such as yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, and Brinell hardness must also conform to the grade ordered. For certain grades, average grain size testing is required.
The ANSI B16.11 Forged Threaded Union standard outlines the ratings, dimensions, tolerances, marking, and material requirements for socket-welding and threaded forged fittings. These fittings come in pressure classes of 2000, 3000, and 6000 for threaded end fittings and 3000, 6000, and 9000 for socket-weld end fittings. The ASME B16.11 Forged Threaded Union should be used in conjunction with equipment described in other ASME B16 standards and may also be used with other ASME standards, such as the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and the B31 Piping Codes.
